I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in March of 2021 at the age of 51. It was a devastating diagnosis but once I understood what I was facing, I made my mind up that Parkinson’s would not define me and I’ve been going non-stop since.

There are approximately one million people in the United States and 10 million people worldwide with this disease, and it’s estimated that 90,000 new cases are diagnosed in the United States each year. Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological disorder in the world and the second leading neurological disorder behind Alzheimer’s. There is currently no cure.

While I now have a lifetime membership to a club I never wanted to be in, I know I’m in good company. We are a strong and resilient group. We help motivate each other to stay positive and keep moving, and while each of us experiences different symptoms and at different rates of progression, we are not alone. Whether you’re a person with Parkinson’s, a care partner, or just someone wanting to help, we are on a journey together and we are warriors!
